Popcorn, Tootsie Rolls & Lollipops

These three items will always keep the dental industry busy. Most broken teeth or lost fillings can be traced back to these items. You can see how scientific this article is so let me clarify facts by adding this caveat: as seen in my experience. There? Does that cover me?

Corn can be either popped or good ole corn on the cob. I don’t know how viciously these ears of corn are attacked but I’m aware of four incidents requiring repair of teeth that were supposed to nibble but somehow turned into jaws of not-quite-steel.Tootsie rolls are pretty self-explanatory. They’re sticky. If any of your fillings are loose…well…I hope the bond between the two of you is strong. If not, we’ll see you in the morning.

Lollipops….choking hazard, advanced sugar delivery system…good taste. Sounds bad until the end. I won’t go into detail. They will chip teeth and remove your fillings. They’re good at it.

So keep brushing, flossing and eat things that won’t alter the hardest substance in your mouth – your teeth!
