$1.9 Million Embezzled From Wa. Dental Office

A woman who worked as a bookkeeper for Fisher Jones Family Dentistry in Olympia plead guilty (along with her husband) to multiple felony counts including money laundering and forgery. Lori Doughty and her husband forged checks to pay off their credit card debt and laundered money through his business.

The dental office has recovered around $80,000 – I think they’re lucky to have recovered that much. One of the practice co-owners estimates that it set their retirement back by a decade. Keep an eye on your books and always check up on those that have access to your bank accounts and funds. This couple got away with 7 years of embezzlement – don’t let this happen to you.

The story can be read online here. Many thanks to Allen Schiff, CPA, CFE of Schiff & Associates for the story.
