Two dentists lost their licenses after an investigation into the death of a patient after endodontic (root canal) therapy in December. The official cause of death was a heart attack.
The investigating body found that the doctors:
- did not adequately train their auxiliaries in medical emergency protocol, sedation and CPR
- failed to record and monitor blood pressure, pulse and oxygen levels during her sedation
- failed to record the patient’s medical history, and
- provided excessive doses of sedation
Avoidable – completely avoidable.
