Dentists Lose Licenses After Patient Death

Two dentists lost their licenses after an investigation into the death of a patient after endodontic (root canal) therapy in December. The official cause of death was a heart attack.

The investigating body found that the doctors:

  • did not adequately train their auxiliaries in medical emergency protocol, sedation and CPR
  • failed to record and monitor blood pressure, pulse and oxygen levels during her sedation
  • failed to record the patient’s medical history, and
  • provided excessive doses of sedation

Avoidable – completely avoidable.
